In the 16-point report of the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Colmberg from the year 1681, two subject families had the Kastenamt Colmberg as landlord in Bettenfeld . The remaining properties were subordinate to the Insingen caste office and the imperial city of Rothenburg . The imperial city of Rothenburg exercised the high court .
With the community edict (early 19th century), Bettenfeld was assigned to the Lohr tax district . A little later, the rural community of Bettenfeld was formed, to which the towns of Herrnwind , Mittelmühle , Obermühle and Reusch belonged. The municipality had an area of 9,561 km². As part of the regional reform , it was incorporated into Rothenburg ob der Tauber on May 1, 1978.
