Former smelting mill

Schmelzmühle is a district of the large district town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in the Ansbach district in Middle Franconia .

geography

The wasteland lies on the Tauber and Schandtauber , which flows here as a left tributary into the Tauber. The Taubertalweg leads past the Gipsmühle to the State Road 1022 (0.6 km northwest) or to the Upper Walkmühle (0.5 km south).

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1333 as "Leysen-Mühle". In 1471 it was sold by Peter Leysenmüller to the Nuremberg citizen Sebald Grolant and converted into a smelting mill. The mill building was rebuilt around 1700. During this time it was also operated as a flour mill.

With the community edict (early 19th century), the place was assigned to the tax district and the municipal community of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

The smelting mill has been out of operation since the First World War. The dam, which consists of three weirs, was still used around 1936 for a pumping station that fed the municipal baths.
