Kaiserstuhl is a district of the large district town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia .
geography
The former desert Kaiserstuhl is now house no. 90 of the Taubertalweg. It lies below Rothenburg in the deeply incised Taubertal am Mühlbach, a left tributary of the Tauber . Approx. The Bismarck monument stands 200 meters to the west, high above the valley on the edge of the slope. The Taubertalweg leads to the Hansrödermühle (0.1 km south) or to the Fuchsmühle (0.15 km northeast).
history
The names Kaiserstuhl and Rosental are historically documented. There, next to the Fuchsmühle, the mayor of Rothenburg, Heinrich Toppler, had a tower house built in 1388, which was protected by moats and resembles a medieval hilltop castle (Motte). The castle did not have a special value as a fortification, it was rather a kind of status symbol, for which the mayor, who was later overthrown and died in an unknown way, was probably envied. Numerous old and new legends and (mostly third-rate) historical novels use the place as a setting. There Toppler rolled the dice with King Wenzel around the city, from there a secret underground passage led up into the city. The building consists of a massive high basement made of rubble stones with small loopholes, on which a strongly projecting two-story plastered half-timbered upper floor rests with relatively small window openings. A tent roof sits on it. There is an original building inscription from 1388 above the entrance door. A similar, somewhat larger tower house is well preserved in Detwang .
In 1801 there were four households in the village, all of which were subject to the imperial city of Rothenburg . With the community edict (early 19th century), the place was assigned to the tax district and the municipal community of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
