history

In the Geographical Lexicon (1802) the place is described as follows:

“Siechhaus zu St. Leonhard, imperial town of Rothenburg within the land weirs, a quarter of an hour from the town towards Leutershausen, an evangelical village. The parish, where the Siechenmühle and Hultenmühle, as well as the Rothenburg Lutheran subjects at Gebsattel, counted 223 souls in 1743 and 200 in 1760. At the request of Erkinger, Abbot of Comburg, brother of Friedrichs Plebani zu Leutzenbronn, the church was separated from the mother church in Gebsattel in 1388 and was then provided with a preacher by the hospital in Rothenburg. Now the parish has its own pastor who lives in the city.
When the epidemic of lust spread to many European countries, Rothenburg was not spared either. This is proven by the leper house in St. Leonhard, in which poor and stupid people are now staying. This was incorporated into the hospital in 1594, but previously administered by special nurses. The Rothenburg Hospital has two existing farmers there. There is a customs office in the village and two small lakes next to it, Igelsee and Igelsbach. In 1699 a brick hut was set up there, [Sp. 333] and the bricklayer was also given teller rights. In the French murderous fire in November 1688, 5 buildings there burned down and the damage was reduced to a minimum of 2135 fl. 30 kr. posted. "

With the community edict (early 19th century), the place was assigned to the tax district and the municipal community of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
