history

Lauterbach was first mentioned in 1220 as "Luterpach" (= settlement on the clear stream). The village is probably a foundation of the high medieval clearing time , which was operated from the Alemannic Urmark Mertingen .

The Teutonic Order had ruled the place since the 14th century . Lauterbach belonged to the Ballei Franken . The centuries-long local rule of the Teutonic Order left many traces in Lauterbach that are still visible today.

Inside the parish church of Sankt Stephan you can see the coat of arms of the Teutonic Order - a paw cross on a white background - in many places. The rectory, built in 1727/28, probably originally served as the summer palace of the Teutonic Order. The hipped roof construction is one of the most important buildings of this type in the entire region.

Lauterbach parish belongs to the Buttenwiesen parish community. The parish also includes the Beutmühle, Illemad and Stadelhöf.

The Vogt , who exercised local rule on behalf of the order, had his seat in the building at Bahnhofstrasse 3 until 1806 .

1818 Lauterbach was the Bavarian Gemeindeedikt elevated to independent municipality.

The linden chapel at the end of the village in the direction of Buttenwiesen was built in 1718 on the initiative of the Teutonic Order Bailiff. It goes back to the miraculous rescue of a Lauterbach peasant woman in a storm and was the destination of a pilgrimage for a long time .

Attractions

The present rectory , built in 1727/28 as a castle of the Teutonic Order , is a representative baroque building with Tuscan pilasters .
