history

Ulrich von Türheim in a representation from 1387 in a Rennewart manuscript

The parish village of Unterthürheim, like the neighboring Oberthürheim, was first mentioned in a document in 1048 . In it, the property, church and tithe in Pfaffenhofen with the tithe in Thürheim are given to the St. Stephan monastery in Augsburg . A lower noble family named themselves after Unterthürheim , the Lords of Thürheim . They sat on the Thürlesberg, which is about two kilometers northwest of the village in a dominant position. The castle of the Lords of Thürheim was probably destroyed in the 14th century and the members of the family moved to the cities. The most famous representative of the family is the poet Ulrich von Türheim , who lived around 1200.

The Kaisheim monastery acquired property in the village from 1242 and eventually became the most important of the many landlords . It was able to enforce local rule and it was only through the secularization of the monastery in 1802 that Unterthürheim became part of Bavaria . The place was assigned to the Landgericht Wertingen .

On January 1, 1976, the previously independent municipality of Unterthürheim was merged with the neighboring municipality of Oberthürheim to form the new municipality of Thürheim . This was incorporated into the municipality of Buttenwiesen on May 1, 1978.
