Clearing time

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The clearing time is generally a period in which clearing has been or is being carried out.

Technical term in historiography

In the context of historiography, a clearing period or clearing period is a period in which forests were cleared in order to gain new areas for agriculture and settlements, usually as a result of land development or land acquisition or colonization .

The medieval warm period enabled a strong increase in the population. This was connected with an expansion of the cultivation areas as well as a reshaping of the settlement structure from single farmsteads and scattered settlements to villages (" vaporizing "). In the German-speaking countries, the places that were founded in the late Middle Ages in the hill country and foothills or as part of the German eastern settlement on cleared areas often have so-called clearing names . These include place names ending in -rode , -roda , -rath or -reuth .

In some areas, such as the Black Forest , the Swiss Jura or the Prealps , the pressure of colonization was so strong that it also affected soils whose soil for agricultural use was quickly used up or whose ore deposits were soon exhausted. Such foundations on inferior land proved to be economically unsustainable in the long term.

General meaning

In general, any period in which clearing is carried out can be referred to as clearing time. In Germany, the period from October to February is sometimes referred to as the “clearing time” or “felling and clearing time”. During this time, trees and other trees are usually cleared, as they are generally prohibited from March to September according to Section 39 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act.
