Ellgau is a municipality in the Swabian district of Augsburg .

geography

location

Ellgau is located about 25 kilometers north of Augsburg in the immediate vicinity of the Lech river and about 15 kilometers south of the city of Donauwörth .

Community structure

In addition to the Kirchdorf Ellgau, there is also Gut Herrlehof . However, the wasteland is not an officially named part of the municipality.

Neighboring communities

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1126. It changed hands several times over the centuries until it was bought by the Fugger family in 1753 . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Due to its proximity to the Lech, Ellgau was important for rafting . There was a landing stage for timber transports. Their importance for the place is shown in the coat of arms of the municipality, on which a wood flowed on a river is depicted.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 849 to 1,125 by 276 inhabitants or by 32.5%.

The community is a member of the Nordendorf administrative community .

Municipal council

The Ellgau municipal council consists of 12 members. Another member and chairwoman of the municipal council is the 1st mayor. In the last local election on March 15, 2020 , the turnout was 78.0%. It brought the following result:

  • CSU: 4 seats (36.4%)
  • Free group of voters: 8 seats (63.6%)

The distribution of seats remained unchanged as in the 2014–2020 term of office.

Christine Gumpp (Free Voting Group), who was elected with 62.5% of the votes, has been the mayor since May 1, 2020. Her predecessor Manfred Schafnitzel (FWG) was in office from May 1990 to April 2020.
