About this picture

Kühlenthal is a municipality in the Swabian district of Augsburg and a member of the Nordendorf administrative community .

Parish parts

The municipality has four officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is given in brackets ):

history

Excavations have shown that there was already a Celtic settlement in the municipality. However, today's community name does not go back to the Celts. Rather, this occurred later and probably indicated swampy terrain. It is assumed that the current community name developed from the old Swabian word "Hülbe" (swampy valley). The name "Küllental" was first mentioned in documents from the 12th century.

Sovereign rights were exercised by various rulers in the places of today's municipality of Kühlental in the Old Kingdom :

  • Ahlingen: In the hamlet of Ahlingen, the Reichsstift St. Ulrich and Afra in Augsburg held state sovereignty, tax law and lower court (local rule), and Austria held the highest jurisdiction.
  • Anzenhof: In the former area of the desert of Anzenhof, high court and lower court (local rule ) were exercised by the county of Fugger-Babenhausen (Oberamt Markt). State sovereignty and tax law lay with Austria.
  • Fertingen: At the end of the Old Kingdom, the hamlet of Fertingen had the same political affiliation as the village of Kühlental.

All four places did not have their own pastor. Kühlental belonged to the parish Westendorf, the remaining three places Ahlingen, Anzenhof and Fertingen to the parish Ehingen .

In 1806 all four towns became Bavarian. With the municipal edict in Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century, these four places and their districts were merged into one municipality with one district. Nothing has changed about that to this day, and the parish remained as it was during the parish reforms of the 1970s. The Haldenhof is a newly founded Aussiedlerhof on the Altgemarkung Kühlental and is not part of the municipality.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 627 to 826 by 199 inhabitants or by 31.7%.
