Westendorf is a municipality in the Swabian district of Augsburg and a member of the Nordendorf administrative community . The place is on the Schmutter .

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 1,137 to 1,667 by 530 inhabitants or 46.6%.

politics

In the local elections on March 15, 2020 , the turnout was 64.4%. The following distribution of seats in the municipal council resulted, term of office 2020–2026:

• CSU / community of citizens: 6 seats (52.1%)
• Free Voters Association Westendorf Association: 4 seats (32.4%)
• SPD / politically conscious citizens: 2 seats (15.5%)

The distribution of seats remained unchanged as in the 2014–2020 term of office.

Steffen Richter (CSU / Bürgergemeinschaft) has been the mayor since 2014. He is the successor to Henriette Kirst-Kopp (FWV) (1998–2014) and was re-elected on March 15, 2020 for a further six years with 93.6%.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture

Agriculture, which originally shaped the place, has been declining for many years, with the exception of a few remaining dairy, piglet and poultry farms. In 2016 there were still 16 companies.

Business

At the end of the 1980s, the community built an industrial park directly on the federal highway, which initiated a structural change. In addition to craft businesses, there are also medium-sized companies in Westendorf.

Jobs

In 2017 there were 465 jobs subject to social security contributions in the municipality, 320 of them in manufacturing and 104 in trade, transport and hospitality. 711 of the inhabitants were in employment subject to compulsory insurance, so that the number of out-commuters was 246 higher than that of in-commuters. 18 residents were unemployed.

traffic

Westendorf is located on the 4-lane federal highway 2 and the Augsburg – Nördlingen railway, about halfway between Augsburg and Donauwörth. Due to the expansion of the B 2, the place is very well connected in terms of traffic in the north-south connection.
