Zirgesheim is a parish village and district of Donauwörth in the Bavarian district of Donau-Ries and has 858 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2015).

The original place name Iringesheim was first mentioned in the 12th century and is made up of the Middle High German word heim (house) and the personal name Iring . Later the preposition ze (bei) was added. So what is meant is a settlement near the house of (Lord) Iring.

geography

Zirgesheim is located on the northern bank of the Danube about 2 kilometers east of Donauwörth. The hamlets of Lederstatt and Stillberghof and the Schiesserhof are also part of the district .

history

Finds from the corridor are known from different epochs of prehistory and early history. Some finds are exhibited in the archaeological museum in Donauwörth. In the early modern period, the place belonged to the Palatinate-Neuburgian district court Graisbach . Landlords were among others the Reichserbmarschalls von Pappenheim . Around 1800 the Donauwörth Hospital was the most important landlord. In addition to the Vogthaus, rectory and the economy, it owned two farms, 42 Sölden and two half-sölden. The parish of Zirgesheim had a half yard and a Sölde. The Donauwörth city chamber had two half courtyards and the Augsburg bishopric ( Westendorf care office ) had a three-quarter courtyard. The Donauwörth Hospital held the patronage of the parish church Maria Immaculata. On July 1, 1971, Zirgesheim was incorporated into Donauwörth as part of the municipal reform.

Ecclesiastically, the Zirgesheim parish is part of the Donauwörth-Parkstadt parish community, Donauwörth deanery, Augsburg diocese.
