The distribution of seats in the state parliament after the election

The state elections in Lower Austria in 1921 took place on April 24th. The election was won by the Christian Social Party (CS) with 32 seats in the state parliament ahead of the Social Democratic Workers' Party with 22 seats.

Accompanying parties

There were four constituencies that corresponded to the neighborhoods of the country. A total of six parties tried to win 60 seats in the Lower Austrian state parliament . The Christian Social Party (CS) with the top candidate August Ségur , the Social Democratic Workers' Party of German Austria (SDAPDÖ) with Karl Renner and the Greater German People's Party (GDVP) with Hans Schürff ran in all four constituencies .

The Communist Party of German Austria (KPDÖ) ran in all constituencies except the quarter above Mannhartsberg, but could not win a mandate. Furthermore, the Democratic Economic Party (DWP) competed in all circles except the quarter under Mannhartsberg. The National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) ran in all constituencies, but was counted among the Greater Germans everywhere except for the district above the Vienna Woods.

aftermath

Even before the first meeting on May 11th of that year, there were accusations against the Social Democratic Party of electoral fraud from the Christian Socialist side. For example, the electoral lists in St. Pölten and Stockerau are said to have been created according to the party wishes. In addition, Christian social posters are said to have been torn down in order to stick social democratic posters in their place. Voters from poor houses were also promised 40 crowns if they voted for the SDAPDÖ. In some cases, Christian Socialists are also said to have been prevented from voting.
