Distribution of mandates after the 2003 state elections

The state elections in Lower Austria in 2003 took place on March 30th. A total of seven parties applied for the 56 seats in the Lower Austrian state parliament . The ÖVP , SPÖ , FPÖ , the Greens , the GRÜNÖ (Green Independent Austria - List of the EU Opposition Gabriela Wladyka) and the KPÖ competed in all 21 constituencies. The CWG was only available for election in the Baden constituency . The ÖVP emerged from the election as the clear winner, gained 8.4 percentage points of votes and regained its absolute majority of votes and mandates. The SPÖ also won over three percentage points of the vote and one mandate. The FPÖ, on the other hand, lost more than two thirds of its votes from 1998, achieved only two mandates and fell behind the Greens, who also gained votes.
