The regional elections in Lower Austria in 1979 took place on March 25th together with the regional elections in Salzburg and the municipal council elections in Carinthia. The ÖVP lost two seats to the SPÖ and achieved its worst election result to date in Lower Austria. With 29 of the 56 seats, it still achieved an absolute majority in the state parliament.
