State election in Salzburg 1974
The state election in Salzburg 1974 was carried out on March 31, 1974 and was the seventh state election in the state of Salzburg in the Second Republic. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) gained 6.5 percentage points and achieved the second-best result after 1945 with 47.2 percent of the vote. The ÖVP was also able to increase its number of seats from 13 to 18 seats, with the total number of seats in the state parliament through a reform of the state parliament of 32 to 36 mandates. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) lost 4.2 percentage points and gained 36.2 percent of the vote. However, by increasing the total number of mandates, the SPÖ was able to keep its 13 mandates. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was also among the losers. She had to accept a minus of 2.5 percent and also lost one seat, with five seats with a share of 15.5 percent. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed with 1.2 percent to enter the state parliament.
The state parliament of the 7th legislative period was constituted on May 22, 1974 and on the same day elected the state government Lechner IV as the new Salzburg state government.
