List of Members of the Salzburg State Parliament (7th legislative period)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of members of the Salzburg state parliament (7th legislative period) lists all members of the Salzburg state parliament in the 7th legislative period or 11th electoral period. The legislative period lasted from the constitution of the Landtag on May 22, 1974 to May 15, 1979. The constitution of the subsequent Landtag of the 8th legislative period took place on May 16, 1979.

With the amendment of the state constitutional law, the number of state parliament members was increased from 32 to 36 in 1973. As a result, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was the only party to benefit from the increase in mandates through massive profits and, after the state election in 1974, had 18 instead of 13 members. Despite the increase in the number of mandates, the number of mandates of the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) remained unchanged compared to 1969 with 13 mandates, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) even fell from six to five mandates.

After the members of the state parliament had sworn in, the Lechner IV state government was elected on May 22, 1974 , succeeding the Lechner III state government .

Functions

Landtag President

After the ÖVP's election victory, the ÖVP was able to regain its claim to the President of the State Parliament, with Hans Schmidinger being entrusted with this function. Karl Zillner (SPÖ) subsequently took over the post of previous “First Deputy President of the State Parliament”, which was renamed “Second Landtag President”. Due to its losses, the FPÖ lost its right to the post of "Second Deputy President of the State Parliament", which was now called "Third State Parliament President". The office was taken over by Hans Zyla (ÖVP), previously Deputy President of the State Parliament. The presidents of the state parliament were elected on May 22, 1974.
