Wolfgang Gmachl (born June 15, 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician, former director of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce and member of the Salzburg state parliament .

Life

After primary school in Nussdorf am Haunsberg, Gmachl attended the archbishopric Borromäum high school in Salzburg, where he graduated in 1962 . He then entered the University of Vienna to study law . In 1969 he received his doctorate in law and then worked as a legal intern at the Salzburg Regional Court. On March 1, 1970, he began his work in the Wirtschaftsbund .

On January 1, 1973, Gmachl was accepted into the service of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce , but at the same time he was released as legal and organizational advisor for the Salzburg regional group of the Austrian Economic Association in return for a refund of the remuneration.

In 1973 Gmachl founded the Management Club Salzburg together with Erhard Busek , of which he was chairman until 1992. From 1978 to 1988 Gmachl was the director of the Wirtschaftsbund, Landesgruppe Salzburg. From 1974 to the end of 1991 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament , where he was particularly committed to the interests of the commercial economy. On August 1, 1988, Gmachl was appointed chamber director by the board of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce.

Wolfgang Gmachl stands up for the interests of the students of the FH - Salzburg and also makes himself available for actions in public. He received honorary membership in the ITS-B 2004 class in 2006.

Gmachl's commitment was to the educational offer of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce. Through an expansion, the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce became one of the largest "educational institutions" in the state of Salzburg ("Chamber of Commerce Education"). In line with the boom in further training, the Institute for Economic Development was expanded in 1992 . With the “Information Center of the Economy (IZW)” and the AHA! Education counseling, the Chamber of Commerce embarked on a new path in information about apprenticeship and vocational training and career information at the beginning of the 1990s on the initiative of Gmachl.

Under his leadership, expansion steps were taken in the area of ​​the Salzburg tourism schools. The Salzburg tourism schools in Kleßheim and Bad Hofgastein have been expanded since 1988 . In 1994 the Bad Hofgastein school hotel, the Grand Park Hotel, was converted into a 5-star hotel and expanded. Gmachl also pays special attention to the technical college sector. With the relocation of the FH courses (with the exception of those from Kuchl) to the new campus FH in Salzburg-Urstein in August 2005, Gmachl has also succeeded in laying the foundation for one of the most promising educational locations in the state of Salzburg.

The Akademie Schloss Urstein private foundation was established in Salzburg-Urstein in August 2005 , and Gmachl was a member of the foundation's advisory board until 2008.

Wolfgang Gmachl was chairman of the supervisory board of the Salzburg exhibition center from 1999 to 2008 and also works as the owner representative of the third owner of the Chamber of Commerce in the expansion of the Salzburg exhibition system . From 1994 to 1999, Wolfgang Gmachl was chairman of the state agency committee at the social insurance institute for the commercial economy for Salzburg.

Gmachl was involved in Salzburg's efforts to host the Olympic Games in 2006 and 2010 and is a member of the board of directors of the bid company for 2014.

He is chairman of the board of trustees of the Steinbeis Transfer Institute Business & Engineering of the Steinbeis University Berlin , based in Urstein Castle . The Board of Trustees supports the Transfer Institute in terms of innovation, program optimization, quality assurance, cooperation and external appearance.
