from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of the members of the Salzburg state parliament 8th legislative period lists all members of the Salzburg state parliament in the 8th legislative period or 12th electoral period. The legislative period lasted from the constitution of the Landtag on May 16, 1979 to May 15, 1984. The constitution of the subsequent Landtag of the 9th legislative period took place on May 16, 1984.

In the 1979 state elections , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) recorded slight losses and lost one mandate. As a result, the ÖVP provided 17 of a total of 36 mandates. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) profited from the losses of the ÖVP, gaining a mandate and entering the state parliament with 14 members. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), however, remained unchanged and continued to provide five members of the state parliament.

After the members of the state parliament had sworn in , the Haslauer II state government was elected on May 16, 1979 , succeeding the Haslauer I state government .

Functions

Landtag President

After the ÖVP won the 1979 state elections, Hans Schmidinger (ÖVP) was re-elected President of the State Parliament. The previous Second President of the State Parliament, Karl Zillner (SPÖ), continued to exercise his office. Only Josef Hörl (ÖVP) replaced Hans Zyla (ÖVP) as the new, third state parliament president. The election of the three presidents was carried out in the constituent session on May 16, 1979. After the death of Karl Zillner on July 11, 1983, Johann Pitzler was elected as the new, second president of the state parliament.
