Georg Griessner

Georg Griessner (born February 28, 1948 in Fusch an der Großglocknerstrasse , † September 23, 2011 in Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and state school inspector. From 1979 to 2004 he was a member of the Salzburg State Parliament , and from 2001 to 2004 President of the Salzburg State Parliament.

education and profession

Griessner attended primary school in Fusch an der Großglocknerstrasse between 1954 and 1962 and then graduated from the agricultural college in Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse from 1964 to 1966 . In 1966 he moved to the Higher Federal College for Alpine Agriculture in Ursprung ( Elixhausen ) and passed his Matura there in 1970. After completing his basic military service in Salzburg between 1970 and 1971 , he joined the Austrian federal state insurance in 1971, for which he worked until 1974. He then worked as an agricultural specialist teacher at the technical college in Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse from 1974, completing an apprenticeship at the Agricultural Education Institute in Vienna - Ober Sankt Veit between 1978 and 1979 . In 2001 he became state school inspector for the agricultural and forestry school system.

Politics and functions

Griessner was active as local party chairman of the Austrian People's Party in Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße between 1972 and 1979 and also worked as district party chairman of the People's Party in Pinzgau between 1985 and 1997. He was also involved in the Austrian Workers 'Union , where he was the District Chairman of the Austrian Workers' Union in Pinzgau from 1977 to 1985.

Between 1974 and 1978 Griessner held his first political mandate as a member of the municipal council in Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse. He then worked from 1978 to 1988 as Mayor of Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse. On May 16, 1979 he was sworn in as a member of the Salzburg state parliament, where he took over the function of club chairman of the Salzburg People's Party between 1996 and 2001. Griessner crowned his political career on October 24, 2001 when he was elected President of the Salzburg State Parliament and left the State Parliament in this capacity on April 27, 2004.
