Josef Breitenfelder

Josef Breitenfelder (born March 15, 1884 in Riegersburg , Lower Austria , † December 13, 1928 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP ) and foreman. He was a member of the Salzburg state parliament , president and state councilor in the Salzburg state government .

education and profession

Breitenfelder attended elementary school in Retz and then completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith, where he attended the trade school in Vienna. In 1904 he moved to Salzburg and joined the kk state railways there, where he was employed as a foreman from 1914 to 1915. After the First World War, he took over the position of head of the Food Office in Salzburg in 1918, and in 1920 he moved to the Union food factory in Salzburg, where he worked until 1926.

Furthermore, in 1913 he was a supervisory board member of the food magazine of the kk state railways and until 1924 chairman of the food magazine of the kk state railways and Austrian federal railways in Salzburg.

Politics and functions

After joining the Social Democratic Party in Itzling in 1904 , Breitenfelder rose to be the chairman of this local group and founded the SDAP district organization Itzling 2. He worked within the party from 1909 to 1928 as a member of the regional party representation of the SDAP in Salzburg and became a member on November 3, 1918 of the provisional state assembly, to which he belonged until April 21, 1919. In addition, from November 7, 1918 to November 29, 1918, he was temporarily deputy president of the provisional state assembly. From April 23, Breitenfelder was also a member of the regular Salzburg state parliament and represented the Social Democratic Party there until December 13, 1928. Between May 18, 1921 and May 3, 1922, he also held the office of First Deputy President of the State Parliament. Between May 4, 1922 and December 13, 1928, as President of the State Parliament, he held the highest office within the Salzburg State Parliament. Furthermore, he was from April 23, 1919 to May 4, 1922, member of the state council in the Salzburg state government and from 1922 to 1927 he was the club chairman of the social democratic state parliament and from 1927 to 1928 he was the deputy club chairman in the state parliament.

Breitenfelder also got involved with the Austrian Children's Friends , where he was regional chairman of the Salzburg Children's Friends from 1921 to 1928 and also acted as a member of the Reich Board of the Children's Friends. In 1955, a street in the Salzburg district of Schallmoos was named in Breitenfelderstraße in memory of Josef Breitenfelder.
