Franz Illig

Franz Illig (born January 22, 1908 in Straßwalchen ; † January 27, 1991 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and elementary school director. From 1945 to 1969 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and from 1945 to 1959 first deputy state parliament president.

education and profession

After primary school in Straßwalchen, Illig attended the citizens' school in Salzburg and from 1923 graduated from the federal teacher training institute in Salzburg. After he graduated from high school in 1927 , he worked as a teacher in Plainfeld and Zinkenbach (today Abersee) . Between 1932 and 1942 he taught in Tweng and was employed part-time as Tweng's municipal secretary. Between 1942 and 1945 he did his military service in World War II and after his return from the war in 1945 he became an elementary school teacher in Mariapfarr . He taught in Mariapfarr until 1947 and in that year took over the position of primary school director of Mariapfarr. Illig remained employed as primary school director in Mariapfarr until his retirement in 1970.

Politics and functions

Illig was acting mayor of Tweng in 1945 and was elected to the Mariapfarr municipal council in 1949. He worked there from 1949 to 1964 and from 1969 to 1971 as Vice Mayor and was a member of the municipal council in between. Within the party, he was active as the district chairman of the SPÖ Lungau from 1949, and from 1957 to 1960 he was the district chairman of the Lungau Free Teachers' Association. In addition, between 1957 and 1958 he was a member of the regional committee of the Salzburg Children's Friends. On December 12, 1945, he was sworn in as a member of the Salzburg State Parliament and on the same day he was elected First Deputy President of the State Parliament. He stayed in this office until July 2, 1959 and left the state parliament on May 13, 1969.
