Mariapfarr ( Lungau dialect : Pfoch ) is a municipality with 2390 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Lungau district in the State of Salzburg in Austria .

- Parish and pilgrimage museum: the museum shows valuable exhibits, documentation about Joseph Mohr, as well as a nativity scene with figures from the 18th century. It is located in the historic premises of the old rectory.
- Silent Night Museum in Mariapfarr: Joseph Mohr worked as coadjutor in Mariapfarr from 1815 to 1817 and wrote the text of the world-famous Christmas carol Silent Night, Holy Night during this time, in 1816 . This only became known in 1995 when a handwritten copy by Joseph Mohr was found. This autograph - dated around 1823 - is the oldest document for the genesis of the song. The Silent Night Museum is part of the Parish and Pilgrimage Museum . In May 2011 the song “Silent Night, Holy Night” was recognized as a national intangible UNESCO cultural heritage of Austria . The house of Joseph Mohr's father and his ancestors, the "Schargler Keusche ", is still a cultural monument in the Stranach district.
- Silent Night Fountain: In 2011, as part of the rectory renovation, the Silent Night Fountain was built in memory of Joseph Mohr. The fountain - crowned by a bust of Joseph Mohr - was designed by Pastor Bernhard Rohrmoser.

- Road: To the south, the town is affected by the B 95 .
- Railway: Between 1893 and 1973 Mariapfarr owned a train station on the Murtalbahn , which was located in the Stranach district. The former station building, which was built in just 316 days, is now a listed building. Since 1988, however, tourist trips have been taking place on the route in historical cars, which are marketed as the Taurach Railway .
