The town hall of Matadepera

Matadepera is a Catalan city ​​in the province of Barcelona in northeastern Spain . It is located in the Comarca Vallès Occidental .

location

Matadepera is located about 3 km north of Terrassa on the left bank of the river Riera de les Arenes at the foot of the Sant Llorenç del Munt mountain range with La Mola (1,095m) as the highest point.

economy

A large part of the district (around 2,000 ha) is covered by forest. On the other agricultural areas, mainly grain, olives and wine are grown. There is also a small amount of livestock.

Industrial activities are limited to smaller operations in the food, wood processing and construction sectors.

Since the 1960s, the place has also gained importance as a summer resort and numerous holiday homes have been built. A large part of the population works in Terrassa, 3 km south . This closeness also means that Matadepera gradually develops into an “appendix” to Terrassas. Various sports clubs from Terrassa ( e.g. Atlètic Terrassa ) already have their facilities in Matadepera.

The local parish church is dedicated to Sant Joan .

Community partnerships

The partnership with the Austrian Mariapfarr arose from the common tradition of the moving giants . The Mariaparrer Samson traveled to a huge meeting in Matadepera in 1982. In the following year some Catalan giants from Matadepera came to Mariapfarr. This led to the parish partnership, which was celebrated in Matadepera in 1984. Many more mutual visits followed.
