Badia del Vallès is a Catalan city in the province of Barcelona in northeastern Spain . It is located in the Comarca Vallès Occidental and belongs to the metropolitan area of Barcelona .
geography
Badia del Vallès is a suburb of the Catalan capital Barcelona, and is located, separated from the Serra de Collserola mountain range , about 20 kilometers northwest of its center and the Mediterranean Sea. The municipality borders in the west on the district town Sabadell , in the south, separated by the river Sec, on the town of Cerdanyola del Vallès , and in the north and east on Barberà del Vallès . With its neighboring communities and beyond, it forms a closed structural unit.
history
In the 1960s, the Spanish government under the dictator Francisco Franco decided to build a large housing estate with over 5,300 apartments to relieve the two cities of Barberà del Vallès and Cerdanyola del Vallès, which for their part had grown into dormitories in the greater Barcelona area in the previous decades .
In 1975 the last new buildings, mostly apartment blocks with 5 to 16 storeys, embedded in park-like grounds and crossed by wide avenues, were inaugurated by today's King of Spain , Juan Carlos I. On April 14, 1994, Badia del Vallès gained its independence by splitting off from the municipalities of Barberà del Vallès and Cerdanyola del Vallès, and is now one of the smallest municipalities with an area of just 0.93 square kilometers, at the same time with a population density of 14,387 inhabitants per Square kilometers one of the most densely populated municipalities in Catalonia and Spain.
Culture and sights
The city celebrates its independence, which it gained in 1994, on April 14th of each year, and the Festa Major , a city festival , is held on the third Sunday in June .
Economy and Transport
economy
The working life of the community is characterized by trade and service companies. However, a large part of the working population commutes to the neighboring communities or to the city of Barcelona, 18 kilometers away.
traffic
On the outskirts, and actually already in the area of the neighboring municipality of Barberà del Vallès, Badia del Vallès has a station on line 4 of Rodalies Barcelona , a local rail system comparable to German S-Bahn. Trains to Barcelona on the one hand and Sabadell and Terrassa on the other hand leave every 15 minutes. Two motorways also cross in the municipality, the C-58, which connects Barcelona with Sabadell and Terrassa, and the A-7, which is part of the third belt of roads around Barcelona.
