Viladecavalls is a municipality in the comarca Vallès Occidental , province of Barcelona in Catalonia , Spain .

geography

Location Viladecavalls in the Vallès Occidental

The city is in the west of the comarca on the border with Baix Llobregat , from which Viladecavalls is separated by the mostly dry river Sant Jaume. This unites in the extreme south with the river Gaià, which crosses the municipality from north to south. Together they form the Morral del Molí , an important tributary of the Llobregat . Pine and oak forests cover more than half of the municipality, the north is determined by the Serra de Collcardús . The neighboring municipalities are Vacarisses in the north, Terrassa in the east, Ullastrell in the south and Abrera and Olesa de Montserrat in the west . The origins of Viladecavall go back to the 10th century, in which Toudell is mentioned (now part of the municipality).

Transport links

Viladecavalls can be reached from Barcelona via the C-58 highways from east Barcelona or C-16 from west Barcelona within 30 minutes, with the C-16 joining the C-58 at Terrassa. At the Terrassa Oeste exit , the C-58 separates again and runs as a two-lane trunk road to Manresa. For a few years, Viladecavalls has had its own entrance and, above all, its own exit from the C-16. While both trunk roads touch the core of Viladecavalls only slightly, the district road B-120 crosses the core. The B-120 connects Terrassa and Olesa de Montserrat .

Another motorway B-40, so far still under construction, cuts through the local area, runs through tunnels between Can Trias and the main suburb of Viladecavalls. The Viladecavalls - Terrassa section is currently in operation, the Viladecavalls - Olesa de Montserrat section is under construction, but is currently closed due to the general economic crisis. The other sections Terrassa - Sabadell - Granollers are in the planning stage.

Within Viladecavalls there are two stations on the S-Bahn line C4 Adif ( Barcelona - Manresa ), in Sant Miquel de Gonteres and at Can Corbera , which also serves the old town of Viladecavalls.

In the south of the district, the GR-6 long-distance hiking trails run between Barcelona and Montserrat and the GR-97, which starts in Sant Celoni and leads to Abrera . In the north of the district, the GR-96 also known as Camí romeu de Montserrat runs .

place

The residents of Viladecavalls, popularly known as "La Tarumba" and its residents as "Tarumbaires" , consists of two town centers, separated by the B-120 road. Both centers are located on the range of hills of the Serra de Sorbet and were built near two fortified mansions that belonged to the parish of Sant Miquel de Sorbet . Sant Miquel de Sorbet is one of the three parishes that, together with those of Sant Miquel de Toudell and Santa Maria Toudell , make up the current parish. All three were under the influence of the fortifications of Terrassa Castle and then the municipality of Sant Pere de Terrassa , until the municipality of Viladecavalls was finally formed in 1849.

From the 1950s on, Viladecavalls was used as a summer retreat for the residents of Terrassa and Barcelona.

The crest

A diamond-shaped shield in azure blue with three horses in silver , above a wall crown. It was approved on January 12, 1984. The three horses in the coat of arms are an allusion to the name of the community, which literally means “place of horses”. However, there is no horse stud (any more) in town.
