Iniciativa per Catalunya Verds

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iniciativa per Catalunya Verds (ICV; German  Initiative for Catalonia Greens ) was a left-ecological (eco-socialist) party with regional links in the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia . It emerged from a merger of the Iniciativa per Catalunya , which was originally the Catalan sister party of the socialist Spanish Izquierda Unida , and the Els Verds - Confederació Ecologista de Catalunya , an ecologically oriented party. ICV has been a member of the European Green Party since 2007 .

Since the Spanish parliamentary elections in 2004 and the European elections in 2004, it forms a joint list with the Izquierda Unida, and in the parliamentary elections in Catalonia since 2003 with the new Catalan sister party of the Izquierda Unida, the Esquerra Unida i Alternativa as ICV-EUiA. As a result, the ICV has had two members in the Spanish Parliament since the Spanish parliamentary elections in 2011 and one in the European Parliament since the European elections in Spain in 2009 .

In the Catalan parliament, the ICV-EUiA list reached 9.7 percent in the 2006–2010 legislative period after the parliamentary elections in Catalonia in 2006 and thus had twelve members. From 2003 to 2010 she was a partner in the three-party coalition with the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC) and the Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC). The ICV thus supported the Catalan government (since 2006 under President José Montilla ). In the parliamentary elections in Catalonia in 2010 , this ruling coalition lost its majority. The ICV-EUiA achieved 7.4 percent and ten seats. In the early parliamentary elections in Catalonia in 2012 , the ICV-EUiA also won. It reached 9.9 percent and 13 seats (ten of them for the ICV). In the 2015 election , Podemos , ICV, EUiA and Equo formed the electoral alliance Catalunya Sí que es pot . This reached 8.9 percent and eleven seats, three of which belonged to the ICV.

Due to financial problems, the party filed for bankruptcy in court on July 6, 2019, whereupon the Commercial Court number 7 of Barcelona opened bankruptcy proceedings. The judge found the ICV's motion to be justified and appointed a liquidator to proceed with the liquidation. This also includes an application for termination of the employment relationship for the entire workforce of the party.
