Weißpriach is one of the 15 communities in the Tamsweg ( Lungau ) district, Salzburg in Austria with 309 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
Weißpriach is located south of the main ridge of the Schladminger Tauern , which in turn is part of the Niedere Tauern , in the valley of the Longa [ lɔŋkɐ ] ("The Curved"). This flows into the Lungau Taurach , a tributary of the Mur . The valley opens to the south-east and is lined with mountain chains that clearly rise above the 2,000 m of the main Alpine ridge ( Hundstein : 2614 m , Großes Gurpitscheck: 2526 m , Vettetspitzen : 2524 m , Lungauer Kalkspitze : 2471 m , zinc wall : 2442 m ).
structure
The village of Weißpriach is divided into five districts, which represent individual hamlets . When entering the valley, the first on the left is St. Rupert ( ⊙ ), where the village's church of the same name is also located. Before you drive through the town center with the municipal office and the local elementary school Am Sand ( ⊙ ), Sonndörfl ( ⊙ ) is on the right-hand side of the valley and Schwaig ( ⊙ ) a little further into the valley . Hinterweißpriach ( ⊙ ) has, even more than the other districts, the character of a scattered settlement and, as the name suggests, can be found further back in the inhabited part of the valley. Two high plateaus lined with alpine pastures - the Hinterlahn (behind the Lahn bridge at 1274 m ) and the Lanschfeld ( 1700 m - 1800 m ) - form the rearmost Weißpriach valley towards Pongau to the district border on the Oberhüttensattel , and towards the Styrian Schladming , the Znachtal rises to the Znachsattel on which the state border with Styria lies. These areas are only accessible by vehicles to a very limited extent.
coat of arms
The blazon of the municipal coat of arms reads:
- “In a split shield on the right in gold, left, half and two whole black points; left single black and bottom right it resembles the middle right side of the top left corner. "
It corresponds to the family coat of arms of the Weißpriach family .
Population development
After a decline at the end of the 19th century, the population has increased steadily since 1900 (with a short-term decrease of 8% between 1910 and 1923, and by 1% from 1951 to 1961) and peaked at 338 in 1991. Until the following census in 2001, stagnation was recorded, with a positive birth balance of 11% being offset by a correspondingly high negative migration balance.
