Niederrain Castle is located in the municipality of Mariapfarr in the Tamsweg district in the state of Salzburg (Niederrain 38).

history

Already in Roman times there was a horse changing station and a tavern on the site of today's residence. The name Niederrain appears in the cathedral capital Urbar (= Oblai) in connection with the mention of Lienhart Ehrenreich am Rain . Between 1519 and 1531 he and his wife Katharina owned various properties in the Lungau . In 1536 Kaspar Grimming (Gryming) exchanged his free Hube zu Steindorf for the Niederrain property, a personal property of the widow Katharina and her two children. The swap made Niederrain a free property . The Grimmingers were rich tradesin Mauterndorf . Kaspar Grimming had a residence built here. His daughter Anna was married to the cathedral capital caretaker of Mauterndorf, Christoph Horner. This is likely to have continued the expansion of Niederrain, because his coat of arms with the year 1539 is above the main portal. After his death in 1562 the property fell back to the Grimming family. In 1617 she was raised to the baron status by Emperor Matthias and called herself from Niederrain from then on .

In 1682 ownership passed to Anna Katharina von Grimming, who was married to Ferdinand von Neuhaus († 1684). After the death of Anna Katharina († 1728), the two children from this marriage inherited the residence. The son died childless, and so the property passed to his sister Anna Susanna von Neuhaus, who was married to the caretaker von Moosham , Baron von Schlaffmann. The daughter from this marriage sold the residence to Abraham Joseph Seefeldner, Pfleger, Mautner and Kastner zu Mauterndorf in 1771 . He sold it to Matthias Ehrenreich in 1782. This family held the residence until 1897. Then the mansion was handed over to the Lassacher family, who are still the owners today.
