Henry Diltz

Henry Stanford Diltz (born September 6, 1938 in Kansas City (Missouri) ) is an American folk musician (vocals, banjo, guitar, clarinet) and photographer . He is considered "the official photographer of the Woodstock Festival ".

Life

In the mid-1960s, Diltz was a member of the Modern Folk Quartet . He lived in Laurel Canyon in the hills of Los Angeles , where numerous musicians lived, including David Crosby , Stephen Stills , Joni Mitchell , Frank Zappa and many more. On a whim, he bought a used camera and began taking photos of those around him. He was able to sell a photo of the Buffalo Springfield group to a magazine for $ 100 and became "the" canyon scene photographer.

Photos of Diltz been published in numerous magazines and newspapers and on many (some sources speak of more than 200) record covers to see as on the debut album by Crosby, Stills & Nash on Morrison Hotel the Doors and Sweet Baby James by James Taylor .

In 2001 Diltz co-founded the "Morrison Hotel Gallery", which exhibits and sells works by well-known photographers.

In 2013 the film documentary "Legends of the Canyon" was released, with Diltz as the narrator.
