Mariapfarr Castle
The lost Mariapfarr Castle was located in the Lungau parish of the same name in the Tamsweg district of Salzburg (Pfarrstrasse 19); today the parish yard and a museum are housed here.
history
It is believed that the noble Dietmar von Lungau had his eponymous castle here. Towards the end of the 12th century, the castle seems to have become a fiefdom of the Salzburg monastery and from then on this was given to Ministeriale . In 1217 the Hochstiftministeriale Konrad von Pfarr planned to take part in a crusade. In the event of his death, he determined that the castle ( aream et domum iuxta ecclesiam ) should be used as a rectory. This seems to have happened.
Mariapfarr Castle today
From evaluations of the Franciscan cadastre from 1830, it can be assumed that the rectory and parish church correspond to the former castle and castle chapel. The formerly existing wall and an elliptical ditch can also be seen in the area.
The parish and pilgrimage museum Mariapfarr is housed in the rectory today .
