Martin Saller (born April 13, 1903 in Bischofshofen ; † July 28, 1965 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. From 1945 to 1965 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament , from 1961 to 1963 second deputy state parliament president and from 1963 state parliament president.

education and profession

After attending primary school in Pöham and Bischofshofen , Saller graduated from the agricultural school in Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse between 1924 and 1926 . He subsequently took over the fiefdom in his home town of Bischofshofen in 1928 and worked there as a farmer until his death. Saller was awarded the professional title of Economics Council in 1950 .

Politics and functions

Saller was involved in the interwar period between 1927 and 1933 as a member of the federal committee of the Catholic Farmers' Union in Salzburg and was its vice-president from 1933 to 1936. In addition, he worked as district party leader of the Christian Social Party of Pongau until 1934.

After the Second World War, Saller was sworn in as a member of the Salzburg state parliament on December 12, 1945, and from 1954 to 1963 he was the chairman of the ÖVP state parliament club. From April 17, 1961 to February 22, 1963, he was the second Deputy President of the State Parliament and from February 22, 1963, until his death, President of the State Parliament. In addition, he was Vice Mayor of Bischofshofen from 1945 to 1949.

Saller was also active in the farmers' union after the Second World War, where he held the function of district chairman of the Salzburg farmers' union between 1945 and 1965 and was also deputy chairman of the Salzburg farmers' union from 1949 to 1965. Within the party, he held the office of district party chairman of the People's Party in Pongau from 1955 to 1963. As a further function, Saller held the office of chairman of the district chamber of farmers in St. Johann im Pongau from 1945 to 1960, was vice-president of the Salzburg Chamber of Agriculture from 1952 to 1965 and chairman of the monitoring committee of the Salzburg Agricultural Health Insurance Fund from 1952 to 1965. He was also chairman of the board of directors of the Pongau dairy cooperative from 1945 to 1957.
