Michael Neureiter (born May 28, 1950 in Hallein ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Neureiter was a member of the Salzburg State Parliament and President of the Salzburg State Parliament.

education and profession

Neureiter attended elementary school in Hallein from 1956 to 1960 and from 1960 to 1968 the federal high school in Hallein. After graduating from high school, he did military service between 1968 and 1969 and from 1969 studied theology and history at the Paris-Lodron University in Salzburg . Neureiter graduated in 1975 with the academic degree Mag. Theol. or 1976 with the academic degree Mag. phil .

Neureiter worked between 1974 and 1980 as secretary of the pastoral care office of the Archdiocese of Salzburg and was a teacher at the Academic Gymnasium Salzburg from 1980 to 1981 . From 1981 to 1983 he worked as the director of studies at the St. Virgil Education Center and from 1983 to 2004 he was the managing director of the Austrian Library. Between 1984 and 2004, Neureiter took over the position of deputy chairman of the Austrian Library Association and has been a consultant to the Austrian Library since 2004. He also works as a watchmaker.

politics

Neureiter joined the ÖVP in 1976 and was managing director of the future initiative “Model Salzburg 2000” in 1983/84. From 1984 to 2014 he was a local council representative and councilor in his home town of Bad Vigaun. Neureiter was the municipality chairman of the ÖVP Bad Vigaun and between 1984 and 2004 published the “Bad Vigauner municipality news”. Within the party, Neureiter was district chairman of the Tennengau ÖVP between 1997 and 2005 and a member of the regional presidium of the Salzburg People's Party from 1997 to 2008. In addition, Neureiter was chairman of the Tennengau ÖAAB from 1985 to 1998 .

Between 1984 and 2008 Neureiter represented the ÖVP in the state parliament, from 1999 to 2008 he was deputy club chairman and from 2004 to 2008 he was the second president of the Salzburg state parliament. As such he was active in the "Congress of Local and Regional Authorities" of the Council of Europe. He was area spokesman in the ÖVP state parliament club for the topics of housing subsidies, European issues, the constitution and development policy. After Neureiter had been stopped during a vehicle inspection with a blood alcohol concentration of 1.8 per thousand and had driven a vehicle the following day without a driver's license, Neureiter resigned as President of the State Parliament and Member of Parliament. He resigned from office on May 27, 2008.

Private

Neureiter was born the son of a sacristan and a housewife and has four siblings. He has been married since 1974 and has three children. He has lived in Bad Vigaun since 1983. Neureiter was chairman of the Halleiner ArbeitsInitiative (HAI), has been a member since 1965 and since 1995 "Honorary Senior" of the Catholic Austrian student association "Illyria" Hallein in the MKV and since 2004 an honorary member of the KÖStV Rupertina Salzburg in the ÖCV . From 1995 to 2014 he was district manager of the Salzburger Bildungswerk Tennengau, from 2001 to 2015 chairman of the culture and museum association “VICONE” Bad Vigaun, since 2007 president of the “Silent Night Society”, from 2008 to 2016 chairman of the initiative “Neue Halleiner Stille Night Organ "and since 2009 chairman of the Dr. Hans Lechner Research Society.
