Josef Schöchl (born January 20, 1959 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and veterinarian. Schöchl has been a member of the Salzburg State Parliament since 2009 , and was President of the State Parliament from January 31, 2018 to June 13, 2018.

Life

Schöchl was born as the son of the merchants Josef and Hilde Schöchl in Salzburg. His parents owned a grocery store with an attached drugstore. He attended elementary school in Salzburg- Parsch and passed the Matura in 1978 at the Academic Gymnasium in Salzburg. Schöchl then did his military service in 1978 and studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna between 1978 and 1985 . Josef Schöchl completed his studies in 1985 with the academic degree Mag. Med. vet. and obtained his doctorate in 1986 as Dr. med. vet. Schöchl also studied political science at the University of Vienna between 1979 and 1981 .

Between 1985 and 1989 he worked as a practical veterinarian and official veterinarian at the veterinary office of the city of Salzburg and was also active as a part-time teacher at HBLA Ursprung between 1986 and 1992. As a result, Schöchl worked at the agricultural college in Kleßheim between 1992 and 2007. In 1990 he was appointed official veterinarian at the office of the Salzburg state government and in 1994 state veterinary director. Then in 1995 he became a food veterinarian. From 1996 to 1997 he was also the founding chairman of the "Working Group of Austrian Official Veterinarians" and from 1997 to 2003 University Advisory Board of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna.

Since 1983 he has been a member of the Catholic student union KÖHV Rugia Vienna and since 1986 KSHV Lodronia Salzburg in the ÖCV .

politics

Schöchl was parish party chairman in Eugendorf between 2004 and 2008 and a local councilor between 2004 and 2009. Between 2006 and 2008 he also held the position of deputy district party chairman of the ÖVP Flachgau and was elected district party chairman in 2008. On April 22, 2009 he was praised as a member of the state parliament, where he took over the function of the area spokesman for transport and waste management within the ÖVP state parliament club.

On January 15, 2018, Hans Mayr announced his resignation as regional councilor on January 30, 2018, the previous President of the State Parliament Brigitta Pallauf (ÖVP) succeeded him as State Councilor on January 31, 2018, and Josef Schöchl became President of the State Parliament. After the state elections in 2018 , Brigitta Pallauf was re-elected as president of the state parliament on June 13, 2018 in the constituent state parliament session of the 16th legislative period.
