Lycium strandveldense is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium strandveldense is a 1 to 1.5 m high, upright, rigid shrub that is armed with spines . The leaves are succulent and hairless. They become 9 to 13 mm long and 2 to 3 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and five-fold. The calyx is bell-shaped to broadly tubular. The calyx tube is about 4 mm long and covered with about 1 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is hemispherical and spreading. It is deep purple in color, occasionally the outside of the corolla tube is greenish white. The corolla tube is 11 to 13 mm long, the corolla lobes are about 2.5 mm long. The stamens are hairy tomentose at the base.

The fruit is a red, elliptical berry with a length of 4 to 5 mm and a width of 7 to 8 mm.

Occurrence

The species is widespread on the African continent and occurs there in South Africa in the Western Cape Province .
