Hans Schmidinger (politician)

Johann "Hans" Schmidinger (born May 12, 1926 in Sankt Georgen near Salzburg , † March 25, 2010 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

After attending elementary and secondary school , Schmidinger completed a teacher training college from 1941 to 1944 . He was a member of the Catholic school association K.Ö.St.V. Sighartstein zu Neumarkt in the MKV. In the last months of the Second World War , the German Wehrmacht was drafted. In 1944 he was taken prisoner of war , from which he returned in 1945. Schmidinger then chose the profession of teacher , worked from 1947 to 1948 as an elementary school teacher at a school in Hintersee , before he became director of the elementary school in Thalgau from 1948 . He retired in July 1983.

Schmidinger, who was a member of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), was elected to the local council of his home community Thalgau in 1954. Vice-mayor from 1959 to 1963, he was elected mayor in February 1963. He remained the mayor of Thalgau for 29 years until January 1992. In July 1959 he was elected as a member of the ÖVP in the Salzburg state parliament; he also held his mandate for 30 years, until May 1989. In 1968 he was elected club chairman of his party and in 1974 he was elected president of the state parliament .
