Bertl Emberger

Bertl Emberger (born November 23, 1941 in Wagrain ; † April 11, 2015 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) as well as a farmer and innkeeper. From 1979 to 1994 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and from 1989 to 1994 the third president of the state parliament.

education and profession

Emberger attended compulsory school in his home town of Wagrain from 1948 to 1955 and then graduated from the agricultural school in Kleßheim from 1959 to 1961 . In 1967 he took over his parents' farm, and from 1973 he also ran a youth hostel in Wagrain. From 1994 he acted as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Salzburg.

Politics and functions

Emberger was born as the son of the later mayor of Wagrain and had early contact with top officials of the ÖVP such as the future Federal Chancellor Josef Klaus . He was active as a functionary in the Austrian Youth Movement (ÖJB) and was involved in local politics, where he was elected to the Wagrain municipal council in 1969. He was a member of this political body until 1974 and was again a community representative in Wagrain from 1984 to 1989. Between 1994 and 1998 he was the vice-mayor of his home parish. Emberg was active within the party from 1970 to 2001 as local party leader of the Wagrain People's Party and also worked from 1976 to 1996 as district party leader of the People's Party in Pongau. From 1970 to 1975 he was a councilor in the district chamber of farmers. He was sworn in as a member of the Salzburg state parliament on May 16, 1979 and resigned from the state parliament on May 1, 1994. From May 3, 1989 to May 1, 1994 he was also the third president of the state parliament.
