Wilhelm Scherthanner

Wilhelm Scherthanner (born January 31, 1882 in Salzburg ; † February 21, 1951 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ), typesetter and proofreader. From 1918 to 1927 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament , from 1922 to 1927 first deputy state parliament president and from 1918 to 1922 regional councilor in the Salzburg state government .

education and profession

Scherthanner attended elementary school and then completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter in the print shop of the "Salzburg Press Association" from 1896. He was subsequently employed as a proofreader in the Salzburg printing works, doing his military service in the First World War between 1915 and 1918 .

Politics and functions

Scherthanner was involved between 1906 and 1912 as chairman of the Christian Social Workers' Association and state representative of the Christian trade unions . He was a member of the provisional state committee between November 3, 1918 and April 21, 1919 and was sworn in as a member of the regular state parliament on April 23, 1919. He was a member of the state parliament until May 3, 1927 and also served as the first deputy president of the state parliament from May 4, 1922 to May 3, 1927. In addition, he held the position of deputy chairman of the club in the state parliament of the Christian Social Party from 1922 to 1927.

In addition to his membership in the Salzburg state parliament, Scherthanner was also state councilor in the Salzburg state government from November 7, 1918 to December 16, 1921. Between January 10, 1922 and May 4, 1922 he was again regional councilor and member of the Salzburg regional government. Scherthanner was also active within the party in 1918 as deputy state party chairman of the Salzburg Christian Socials. In 1944 he was imprisoned by the National Socialists for political reasons .
