Josef Knosp (born March 15, 1891 in Elixhausen ; † January 31, 1953 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ) and federal railway official. He was a member of the Salzburg state parliament from 1919 to 1934 and its president from 1932 to 1934. He was also a member of the National Council from 1930 to 1934 , a member of the State Parliament of Salzburg from 1934 to 1938, as well as its President, and in 1934, for a short time, State Councilor in the Salzburg State Government .

education and profession

Knosp first attended elementary school and from 1912 worked as a factory worker. He did his military service between 1912 and 1914 and then had to do military service in the First World War from 1914, where he was taken prisoner of war, from which he was only able to return in 1919. After his return, he joined the Austrian Federal Railways in 1919 , where he was employed as a shifter. In 1930 he was given leave of absence due to his political offices and retired in 1938 after the National Socialists came to power. After the end of the Second World War, Knosp was reinstated in the Austrian Federal Railways in 1945 and until 1953 employed as an official of the General Directorate of the Austrian Federal Railways in Vienna.

Politics and functions

Knosp was involved from 1928 to 1931 and from 1933 to 1938 as chairman of the Salzburg State Commission of Christian Unions and was also chairman of the Christian Railway Workers' Union . From 1933 to 1936 he was the regional leader of the Christian defense organization “ Freedom Association ” in Salzburg and after 1945 was politically active in the railway workers' union and the ÖAAB in the railways section. In 1935 he was awarded the Austrian Gold Medal of Merit .

Knosp represented the Christian Social Party from December 2, 1930 to May 2, 1934 in the National Council ( fourth legislative period ) and was also a member of the Salzburg state government from February 26, 1934 to October 31, 1934. He then became a member of the State Parliament of Salzburg on November 22, 1934 , where he was nominated as a representative of trade and transport and was elected President of the State Parliament on the same day. On March 12, 1938, Knosp lost his political offices as a result of the National Socialists coming to power .
