Johann Pitzler

Johann Pitzler (born June 17, 1929 in Helpfau-Uttendorf , † November 25, 2007 in Hallein ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and orthopedic technician. From 1974 to 1989 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and its second president from 1983.

education and profession

Pitzler attended elementary school from 1935 to 1939 and then from 1939 to 1943 the secondary school. He then switched to secondary school in Salzburg until 1945 and then completed an apprenticeship as a bandagist in Salzburg between 1945 and 1948. After taking the journeyman's examination in 1948, he worked in the profession he had learned in Salzburg and Vienna until 1955 and also passed the master craftsman's examination in 1953. In 1955 he moved to Lienz as managing director of an orthopedic company , before he started his own business in 1959 as an independent entrepreneur and owner of an orthopedic and bandage company and a textile specialist shop in Hallein. Pitzler ran his business until 1997.

Politics and functions

Pitzler was involved in the trade union movement as well as professional representation and was active as a young trade unionist and shop steward from 1952 to 1955. Between 1970 and 1975 he was a member of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Federal Committee. Furthermore, between 1975 and 1980 he acted as the chairman of the specialist representative for bandages and orthopedic technicians in the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce.

In 1964 Pitzler joined the SPÖ. Between 1973 and 1988 he took over the function of district party chairman of the SPÖ Tennengau, where he was made honorary chairman in 1988. He was also a member of the state party executive from 1974 to 1988 and a member of the state party presidium from 1978 to 1988. As the highest office within the party, he held the position of deputy state party chairman of the SPÖ Salzburg from 1986 to 1988. Pitzler was also involved in state party control of the SPÖ Salzburg, of which he was chairman from 2000 to 2005. He was also active as deputy regional chairman from 1961 to 1979 and from 1979 to 1986 as regional chairman of the Free Trade Association of Salzburg. After retiring from this position, he was appointed honorary chairman in 1986.

He held his first political mandate from 1969 as a member of the municipal council in the city of Hallein. He was a member of the municipal council until 1984 and was also club chairman of the SPÖ Hallein from 1976. He represented the Social Democratic Party between May 22, 1974 and May 2, 1989 as a member of the Salzburg state parliament and was its second president from September 21, 1983 until he left.

Pitzler was also chairman of the board of the Sparkasse Hallein from 1975 to 1981, from 1975 to 1980 member of the board of the non-profit housing and settlement cooperative “Salzburg” and from 1983 to 1989 deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the Salzburger Landeshypothekenbank.
