The 50th Melodi Grand Prix served to find the Norwegian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . Tooji emerged as the winner . As every year, the broadcasting station was the Norsk Rikskringkasting NRK1 in January and February 2012. The moderators in the Norwegian preliminary round were Per Sundnes and Marte Stokstad . The winner of the preliminary round, the Norwegian-Iranian singer Tooji represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 with the song Stay in Baku , Azerbaijan .

Implementation and system

All songs were released for the preliminary round on January 16, 2012. The first semi-final took place on January 21st in Hangar E in the Ørland military airfield ( Ørland hovudflystasjonin ) in Ørland , the second semi-final took place on January 28th in the Larvik Arena in Larvik , and the third semi-final took place on February 4th in the Florø-Sport-Center ( Florø Idrettssenter ) in Florø and the final took place on February 11th at the Oslo Spektrum in Oslo . New this year was that this time eight songs took part in each semifinals, in previous years there were always six or seven songs. In addition, the “Second Chance Round” was omitted for the first time. Three entries from each semi-final qualified for the final. The jury also selected one entry, so that there were a total of ten entries in the final.
