Florø

Florø is the westernmost city in Norway . It is located on the Norwegian coast in the province ( Fylke ) Vestland between Ålesund and Bergen and is the landing stage for the Hurtigruten . Florø has about 10,000 inhabitants. The city is one of the two administrative headquarters of the Kinn municipality . The city was founded in 1860 because of the "silver of the seas", the herring, which the city also bears in its coat of arms.

economy

The main occupation of the inhabitants is fishing and the exploration of natural gas and oil . A large field for oil production extends west of Florø. The place also has a large shipyard.

traffic

Florø is connected to European route 39 via the RV5 road. The Floro Airport is located approximately two kilometers south of the city.

Attractions

One of the sights is the “Sogn og Fjordane Kystmuseet” museum . This museum shows the history of the community in various buildings and in the open air area.
