course
The European route 39 begins as a junction of the European route 6 around 10 kilometers south of Trondheim . In its southern course along the Atlantic coast of western Norway , it passes the cities of Kristiansund , Ålesund , Bergen , Stavanger and Kristiansand . Several car ferries are integrated into their route : eight shorter ferries in Norway and the Kristiansand- Hirtshals ferry from Norway to Denmark . Various earlier ferry routes have been replaced by underwater tunnels , of which the Bømlafjord tunnel reaches a depth of 262.5 m below sea level. From the Danish Hirtshals, the E 39 runs as a motorway to Aalborg .
