Vestnes is a place and a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Møre og Romsdal , about 500 kilometers northwest of Oslo. The administrative center of the municipality is Vestnes. Other larger places are Tomrefjord and Tresfjord on the fjords of the same name , where the majority of the population lives.

The municipality extends, including the Romsdalsfjord, from north to south by 26.4 kilometers, from east to west by 31.8 km. The highest point was the 1434 meter high Lauparen . The island Feøya, east of Vestnes, belongs to the municipality

Neighboring municipalities are Haram , Midsund , Molde , Ørskog , Rauma , Skodje and Stordal .

One of the most important industries and main employers of the municipality is shipbuilding , which is based on a long tradition . Nowadays the small but modern shipyards process steel and aluminum , 30 years ago almost exclusively wood .

The Tresfjord Bridge has been spanning the Tresfjord south of Vestnes since 2015 .
