Aukra is a place and a municipality in the province ( Fylke ) Møre og Romsdal , Norway .
3509 people live in the municipality of Aukra (as of February 27, 2020), the majority of them on the island of Gossa , 600 live on the mainland part of the municipality, Julsund , which borders on Hustadvika and Molde . Aukra also shares a border with Ålesund .
A strong industrial expansion is taking place on Gossa. One of the largest gas terminals in Northern Europe, Nyhamna , which will receive gas from the Ormen-Lange gas field , is being built there. This terminal is intended to supply large parts of Europe with gas.
Before the boom in the gas industry, Aukra's income came primarily from agriculture, the fishing industry and shipbuilding.
