Aure is a place and a municipality in the Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Møre og Romsdal . The administrative center of the municipality is Aure.
The municipality extends from north to south 35.3 kilometers and from east to west 58.7 kilometers.
The highest point was the 821 meter high Todalsfjellet, which, when it was merged with Tustna, was replaced by the 87 meter higher Innerbergsalen at 908 meters. The largest water area in the inland is 3.9 square kilometers of Rennsjøen . Larger islands of Aure are Ertvågsøy with 140 square kilometers, Tustna (since 2006) with 89 square kilometers, Skarsøya with 52.3 square kilometers and Grisvågøy .
On January 1, 2006, the area of Aure increased from 503 to 653 square kilometers through the incorporation of the municipality of Tustna, which has existed since 1874 . The population density is now 5.37 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Neighboring municipalities are Hitra , Heim , Tingvoll , Kristiansund and Smøla .
After a referendum on September 15, 2003, the resolution was passed on June 24, 2004 to merge the two municipalities. Solskjel and Aure came into question as new names . The latter was chosen for traditional reasons.
Since November 2006, the 89 square kilometer island of Tustna has been connected to Aure by two bridges that extend the RV680 and now replace the ferry .
