Averøy is a Norwegian municipality in Fylke Møre og Romsdal . The administrative seat is in Bruhagen.
Geography and traffic
The municipality of Averøy consists of the island of the same name Averøya, west of Kristiansund and several small islands. The larger towns are Bremsnes, Kårvåg and Langøy. Neighboring municipalities are Kristiansund, Gjemnes and Hustadvika .
The national road 64 connects Averøy with Molde . A ferry ran from Bremsnes to Kristiansund. On December 19, 2009 it was replaced by a tunnel.
Attractions
- Atlanterhavsveien is part of the national route 64, which connects Averøy with Eide via eight bridges. The road was completed in 1989 and voted Norwegian Construction of the Century .
- Kvernes stavkirke is a 14th century stave church .
- Bremsnes Kirke is an 18th century church.
- Gamle Kvernes bygdemuseum is an open air museum. It belongs to the Nordmøre Museum .
- Bremsneshola is the largest cave in the Nordmøre region.
- Håholmen is an old fishing village that was restored by the adventurer Ragnar Thorseth .
- Håkkårøysa is Nordmøre's largest burial mound. It comes from the Viking Age .
