Ragnar Thorseth

Ragnar Thorseth (* 1948 ) is a Norwegian adventurer and writer from the Herøy municipality in Fylke Møre og Romsdal . Ragnar Thorseth became known through daring expeditions with smaller boats. In 1969 he was the first person to row from Norway ( Måloy ) to Lerwick on the Shetland Islands . Books and illustrated books have appeared from all of the larger expeditions.
The old fishing village of
Håholmen , on a small island in Averøy Municipality , was restored by Ragnar Thorseth.

In October 2012, Ragnar Thorseth received his own department in the Aarvak Arctic Museum in Brandal.

Expeditions

  • 1969 Thorseth rows alone from Måloy in Norway to Lerwick on the Shetland Islands.
  • 1971 Circumnavigation of the Arctic Ocean (6000 nm ) with the 32 foot long boat Santho .
  • 1975 Atlantic crossing with the Cleng Peerson on the historic route to Vinland and on to New York in the USA (8500 nm).
  • 1979–1980 Crossing the Northwest Passage in a 20-foot boat in the footsteps of Roald Amundsen .
  • 1982 Head of a polar expedition from Spitsbergen via the North Pole to Ellesmere Island .
  • 1986–1987 circumnavigation of the world with the Saga Siglar , a replica of a Viking ship.
  • 1987–1988 Wintered with family in the Kongsfjord on Svalbard in the Havella boat .
  • 1991 Atlantic crossing from Norway to New York with the Gaia , a replica of the Gokstad ship .
