Skodje
Skodje is a place and a former municipality in the Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Møre og Romsdal . The administrative center of the municipality was Skodje. As part of the municipal reform in Norway , Skodje, Haram , Sandøy and Ørskog were merged with Ålesund , the largest city in Møre og Romsdal, on January 1, 2020 .
Surname
Since the first church was built, the village has been named after a farm called Skodje ( Old Norwegian : Sköðvin ). The meaning of the first syllable Sköð of the name is not known, the second syllable vin means something like "meadow", "pasture" or "grassland". Until 1879 the place name was still written Skoue .

The municipality of Skodje, with its cliffs up to 576 meters high, stretched from north to south over the Storfjord by 14.9 kilometers (only land 13.7 km) and from east to west by 22.2 kilometers. 4,764 inhabitants lived on an area of 120 km² (as of January 1, 2019). The population density was 40 people per square kilometer. The municipality number was 1529. The last mayor was Modolf Hareide ( Sp ).
The neighboring municipalities of Skodje were Ålesund, Haram, Ørskog, Sykkylven and Vestnes .
Lakes
Engsetdalsvatnet and Brusdalsvatnet are the two larger lakes, most of which were in the area of the municipality of Skodje.
The Engsetdalsvatnet is about 4.36 km² and lies with its water level 46 m above sea level. Its bank extends over a total length of 21.57 km. Like the majority of geomorphological forms in Norway, its formation goes back essentially to the last Ice Age. At 7.48 km², the Brusdalsvatnet is slightly larger.
