Hjørring [ ˈjøʀeŋ ] is a Danish city in the Nordjylland region . It forms the center of the Hjørring municipality formed on January 1, 2007 .
history
Erik IV (Denmark) granted Hjørring town charter in 1243. Three churches from the Romanesque period bear witness to the importance of the city for the clergy ; influential citizens built a guild hall .
Until April 1, 1970, the city was the official seat of Hjørring Amt , then the Hjørring Municipality (1970-2006) was formed. For the 750th anniversary of the city in 1993, an extensive urban renewal took place. Numerous sculptures by Danish artists were set up.

Culture and sights
- Catherine's Church, which is essentially late Romanesque, has been supplemented several times and redesigned in baroque style. A new nave was last added in 1926 . With the extensions, the choir was moved from east to south. In 1829 the St. Anna Chapel received its classicist south portal. In the cemetery the bowl stone called “Børsen” .
- Iron Age graves (1st to 4th centuries) in the main cemetery
- Saint Hans Kirke. In the Johanniskirche wall paintings (around 1350) show Christophorus with the baby Jesus. Altar and pulpit from the early 17th century.
- Vendsyssel Historiske Museum. Historical regional museum for Vendsyssel (Stone Age to the present)
