The 59th Melodi Grand Prix should be the Norwegian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ).

format

concept

On March 26, 2020, the state broadcasting company Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. In 2021, the concept of five semi-finals and a final with ten participants will be retained in 2021. The participating artists will be divided into five semi-finals. They come from one of the five regions of Norway (Northern Norway, Central Norway, Western Norway, Eastern Norway and Southern Norway).

Ulrikke Brandstorp , who won the Melodi Grand Prix 2020 and should have represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 , declined an offer to compete with a contribution that automatically qualified for the final. Further details on the preliminary decision will be announced at a later date.

Choice of contribution

From May 15 to August 16, 2020, potential composers had the opportunity to submit a contribution to the NRK. Each composer or producer could submit up to three songs. As in the previous year, at least one composer or producer had to come from Norway this year. Compared to the previous year, the period for submissions has been shortened and the submission deadline has been moved back. According to producer Stig Karlsen, a wide range of music genres should be represented in the competition.

broadcasts

The Melodi Grand Prix 2021 will stretch over six weeks.
